Abstraction in Oil and Cold Wax Painting with artist Mary Mendla

3 Day Workshop       July 31-Aug 2, 2020        10:00am-4:30pm

$375 per student, supply list available

If you’ve been curious about abstract painting using cold wax medium and oil paint, join me for this opportunity to explore the basics of this innovative form of expression.  Learn about various mixed media materials, surface effects, and techniques used to achieve unique finishes. Experiment with mixed media to add interesting textural elements to enhance your work.  We will work with a variety of non-traditional tools rather than brushes: brayers, scrapers, squeegees, sticks, and anything else you can think of to make an interesting mark. This way of working is a very intuitive process and will expand the spontaneity in your artwork.  You will work on six to eight paintings as you explore techniques. Mostly, you will have fun as you open new avenues of expression with this new approach to painting. Get ready to experiment and amaze yourself!

This class is open to artists with at least intermediate experience in painting and drawing.  Basic painting techniques will not be covered. It is a beginning level class in oil, cold wax, and mixed media painting.  However, if you have taken one of my Oil and Cold Wax classes in the past, the class is taught in a very open way that offers opportunities to learn and expand your techniques further into more advanced applications.
